Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie. A very good movie, in fact. But it was not a straight spoof of the zombie genre. Thats what I expected. Especially since it was touted all weekend by one as being the 'funniest movie ever.' Sorta scared the piss out of me, actually.
It had funny moments. I did genuinely laugh out loud a few times, but the moments of actual terror (I yelped at least once) outweighed the cheery bits. Especially while being holed up in a dark house in the middle of nowhere in a torrential downpour. Not to mention the emotionally taxing parts that were just straight ROUGH. Not even a hint of humor, at times. Me gods, there was some serious shit going down here. Not what I expected in the slightest.
And that is exactly what made it such a great movie!

you may have taken this film a bit to seriously. it is a totally normal thing for comedies to mix in a bit of drama. maybe less so in todays films, but a lot of comedies have tense moments and sadness.
also, whoever said it was one of the funniest movies ever was crazy.

It starts out very funny and then they sort of paint themselves into a corner where the only way out is to just turn into a straight-up zombie movie. Which is disappointing, except it turns into a very good straight-up zombie movie. I dug it.

It's just a really good movie with some really solid laughs. There are probably just as many laughs in Land of the Dead, depending on how hard you yuk at social satire.
Love the bit where they're deciding which LPs are expendable.

It gets even better with repeat viewing. LOTS of hilarious foreshadowing - though you probably caught a lot of it the first time through.
"next time I see you, you're dead"

agreed. it was "meh", except for a few lol-worthy scenes such as the one where they were selectively chucking records at the zombie girl in the backyard.

You obviously didn't realize the subtle overtone of humor throughout the movie. If there is a culture that has mastered comedy, it's the British.
