"One of those life-affirming shows where there are only 20 people there, but you just know that your musical world will never be the same... Ladies and Gentlemen, my new all-time favorite band, from Toronto, Magneta Lane..."

I really really liked them too. It was early, the crowd was sparse, but these girls rocked. Were the first of three openers for Voxtrot on Monday and were far and away the most impressive. They made me wanna go buy a bass with a distortion pedal and start a band. They need to come back to New York soon, and play at a reasonable hour for a reasonable crowd. Keep your eyes peeled for their return.
You can listen to their EP at their website. More at Myspace.
They were excellent! Magneta Lane have a new album out that just came out a week ago in the states. It's called Dancing With Daggers, and is available on Amazon and the like.
I wrote a short piece on them on NPR a few weeks ago:

They were okay! I wanted to like them a lot more than I did. Less Strokes, more Blondie. Drummer is sloppy. Lead singer has too nice a voice to waste on material with such limited range. But will happily see them again in hopes they rawk harder.
