I don't follow College Football even slightly...but last night was one of the most exciting games I've ever watched. And how great is that picture?? Vince Young, after losing the Heisman to Reggie Bush a few weeks earlier, does "the pose" with the National Champion Trophy under his arm! So good. Especially after dickhead Leinart claims postgame that they were still the better team, but just couldn't execute. So lame. I thought this Bill Simmons' diary seemed particularly mailed in...most likely due to the fact that he knows nothing about the sport either, so I won't hold it against him. It was especially amusing to read him talk shit about Young at the beginning at the game, just knowing that by the end he'd be slobbering all over him. "I now have him ranked above every NFL QB except for Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer." came a mere 3 and a half hours after "There's no way Vince can succeed in the NFL." As Simmons would say, high comedy.
I would love the Jets to get Vince Young with the #4 pick, tho it seems now that he may not last that long. He'd be the exact type of superstar the Jets need to get their shit back together and have people care about them again. I've been a Giants fan since birth, but have nothing against the Jets. They've just always been the absolute most boring team in the league. I think a new Vinny would do them wonders.

actually, i think leinart was exactly right. he and reggie bush are far better athletes than vince young and will tear up the nfl (leinart was throwing absolute darts in the second half, only missing one on a drop and hitting everyone in stride). usc's defense had been terrible all season. texas didn't even score as many points on usc as fresno state did. yeah, fresno state. vince young isn't that good, usc's defense is just that bad and if people think he is the next michael vick well then enjoy never going to a super bowl because only true quarterbacks who stand in the pocket and throw good balls go to superbowls. i feel so weird posting this here but sorry, that game has bugged the crap out of me. leinart will become another carson palmer, reggie bush will be another (can't even think of athletic equivalent) and vince young will win (maybe) one playoff game in his career.

Unfortunately for the Jets it looks like the top 3 picks are where it's at. One of my co-workers really wants the Jets to draft an offensive lineman at #4.
I could see Vince Young going #1 especially considering Houston does own the pick.

hey J,
You are obviously a bitter USC fan.
Umm...
Matt Leinart is a far better athlete than Vince Young?
Vince Young may be the next Mike Vick, but there have been teams that have won playoff games and superbowls with QBs that are worse than Vick.
Matt Leinart may become a good or great QB, but that's far from certain too. He also has the benefit of a great offensive line and unbelievable offensive weapons.
You should come to grips with the fact that USC lost to Texas. Texas is the better team.

J, even still, I think Leinhart should have had a bit more class in his post game comments. Even if he was 100% correct.
I really don't know anything about Vince Young except from that game, but he put on one of the most exciting performances I've ever seen. Will that translate to NFL success? I dunno.
And yes, looks like the Jets are SOL this year. Too bad.

i definitely agree that he should have had more class in losing. pete carroll wasn't even making sense in his post-game interview and i cant imagine how rattled they were. i did want usc to win and (like i freely admitted) the game did bug me. vince young was throwing to wide open receivers and he walked untouched into the endzone for the final touchdown. it was exciting, sure, but was he making any spectacular plays? can you think of one play where he gave a stiff-arm, spin move, anything? if pete carroll leaves reggie bush in the game on fourth and two and they make the first down and win would we even be talking about this?

unfortunately, it'll probably be even worse for the jets. vince young isn't expected to go pro this year, instead opting to finish his senior year at college. without him in the draft, that's yet another player the jets won't have a chance at, and in a way it bumps them to the 5th best player in the draft.

and i agree, jeff, simmons' diary was quite lame the other day. sad he knows so little about college football and almost writes it off. it is not my favortie sport but if you know nothng about it and could care less, why do a glib journal.

i like simmons article. but that may be because i can't stand college sports in general, but still watched the rose bowl. also, i'm a patriots fan and i can relate to having pete carroll as the coach for so long. those jokes were pretty priceless, but i guess they were more of a "you had to be there" type of joke.
