Of all the items brought up in this Pitchfork piece on the Decemberists, I find the Capitol Records deal probibly the least interesting part. Sure it's a major label, but these guys don't seem like ones that'll be too affected by it.
Some of these bits I've heard scattered about the Internet over the last few weeks, but it's good to finally see it all in one place. In no particular order...
The DVD still seems no closer to being completed than it ever has. While I don't really pay attention to music DVDs usually, I've been hearing about this thing forever. I'm curious to watch them evolve over the course of such a breakout year.
Meloy's solo tour EP is of...Shirley Collins. Hmmmm...not quite Morrissey, but I'll bite.
Laura Viers will be opening for him. This is very old news. I regrettably missed her at Mercury last night and am really looking forward to catching her set here. I don't know anything about other opener Amy Annelle except Pitchfork liked her 2001 album and she has a myspace page.
The tour will be recorded and a live CD will come out following it. Cannot wait for this. Hopefully it'll let me scrap those sub-par recordings I collected from the last solo tour.
Tarkio (Colin's old band) is having a 2-disc anthology put on on Kill Rock Stars next month. I have no idea what this sounds like, but it's gotta be pretty good...right?
There will be no Kelly Clarkson duets in the upcoming future. (frownies!)
And finally...
New Decemberist album getting recorded in April! I guess it'll be out by the end of next year. Hopefully.
did you seriously just say "frownies"

amy anelle is/was the lead singer of the places and opened up for colin at fez (rip) last winter. while her places albums are pretty stellar, i was super dissapointed by her solo show.

i saw the places with the long winters and decemberists on their spring/summer tour last year -- quiet, soft, and pleasant, but didn't move me at all.

The Laura Veirs show was excellent. One of the best concerts I've been to this year. Sujan Stevens was in the audience. She opened for him on his fall tour. Check out her album.
