I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the opening song on the OC was last night. It sounded really really familiar, but all the raspy Brit-rock bands I had running through my head, it just wasn't coming to me. When I finally got home later that night, I scanned down through my iTunes desperately trying to find it. Once I got to N, it clicked. Nine Black Alps, of course. Not only did I have the song, but I even posted it a couple months ago. Silly me. Here it is again:
UPDATE: Hey hey, Jen...nobody's letting anyone down. I was just emailed a link to the "Yellow" cover from the end of last night's ep. It's apparently sung by current Decemberist Petra Haden! How about that. You can download the song here. (Thanks Verdi!)
Speaking of the OC music, Pitchfork posted their annual unjustified poor review of an OC soundtrack. Say what you will about the infusion of indie music into mainstream culture, but I don't think anyone's getting hurt here. What ever happened to liking music regardless what regular people think? Have we forgotten Kelly Clarkson already??
Anyway, the album contains tracks from several albums that Pitchfork once loved, including Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek, which the same reviewer once gave a flawless 5-star track review to. Amy Philips is one of a very small handful of people whose name I regularly recognize on Pitchfork (due to her amazing and unfortunately near-dead More in the Monitor blog) so I may be holding her to a slightly higher standard, but it just doesn't seem fair to blame these bands for the people who now may be listening to them.
but who did the last song?! the coldplay cover. i must know!

Thanks for the link to the Yellow cover. I've been trying to find out who it was since Thursday.
