Here's what I've got coming up in the next few months. I feel like December is a bit too quiet for it being almost November already...
10/24: Wolf Parade @ Bowery
10/25: Wolf Parade @ Northsix
Going to see them twice in a row, which is something I rarely do, but I feel with these guys the next time they're in town it'll be in a more undesirable venue. Helps that these are two of my favorite venues and this is one of my favorite bands.
10/26: The Diggs @ Scenic
It's been a while. Still love them. Free show too.
10/27: We are Scientists @ Bowery (Opening for Ambulance LTD)
I hate to pull a CYHSY/National, but I feel like Ambulance has been around for so long doing the same material, I don't need to see them again. I may stick around for a few songs, but they'll have to show me something special reeeeal quick to keep me there.
10/28: Dresden Dolls @ Webster
Loved them opening for NIN earlier in the year. Been looking forward to seeing them again. Good Halloween band.
10/29 (late): Hopewell @ Pianos
One of my CMJ highlights this year. Excellent band, worth swinging by if you're out in the area.
10/29: The Mountain Goats/Prayers and Tears of ADS @ Bowery
May be out of town for this, but I'll be there for...
10/31: The Mountain Goats/Grizzly Bear/Prayers and Tears of ADS @ Knitting Factory
Glad Grizzly Bear is on this. I've been dying to check them out. P&T are so good as well. Great show all around.
11/1: Veruca Salt @ The Canal Room
Whoa...just saw this one. Doubt I'll go, but its interesting.
11/2: Movable Hype 5.0 @ Knitting Factory
Great lineup for the 1 year anniversary: Bravo Silva, Snowden, The Capitol Years and The Cloud Room.
11/3: Elbow @ Hiro Ballroom
Really dig the new album. Only US show I hear? I'll try not to miss it.
11/4: Tom Vek @ Knitting Factory
My biggest miss at CMJ May be out of town that weekend again, however. Hope I can make it.
11/5: Fiery Furnaces @ Northsix
If I'm around this weekend, I'm there. Gotta give them another chance after the Town Hall nightmare.
11/6: Super Furry Animals @ Webster Hall
Never seen them before. Didn't think they were 'two nights at Webster' big in the states, but I guess so. Looking forward.
11/8: Joggers/Rahim @ Knitting Factory
The Joggers are creeping up to becoming my favorite band these days. Need to see them play a proper set, rather than the CMJ 'Houseboat' show. I've been itching to see Rahim again for a while now too. Always fun, especially when TaN! are in town...
11/10: Art Brut @ Mercury
I get it, but I still don't love them. Hoping a live show will convert me.
11/11: Okkervil River/Charles Bissell @ Knitting Factory
Phew...lost of Knitting Factory shows coming up. Okkervil River hasn't been to NYC in what seems like forever. Dying to see them live.
11/12: Bauhaus @ Nokia Theatre
Would love to, but tix are a lil too $$$.
11/16: Arctic Monkeys @ Mercury
How could I miss the band that will be "bigger than Oasis and the Libertines combined!!" at their first shows in NYC?
11/17: Blood Brothers @ Nokia Theatre
Opening for Coheed. Hate to miss them when they're in town, but this'll prolly be a pretty lousy set by them.
11/18: Trizetta @ Northsix
Maybe. This is the Album Leaf guy's old band. He's not in it anymore tho I guess. Like what I've heard, but not sure what it'd be like live.
11/20: Echo and the Bunnymen @ Irving
Sorta interested, but not sure if it's worth it on a Sunday.
11/21: Juliana Theory @ Knitting Factory
Heh...we'll see
11/22: Styrofoam/DNTEL @ Knitting Factory
Really liked Styrofoam last time I saw them. DNTEL is fun too.
11/25-26: Bright Eyes w/ Feist and Magic Numbers
Would love to go to one of these shows. Great support. Holding out for a NYC show the week after. Also can't go if I'm going to this:
11/27: Sigur Ros @ laugardalshöllin - Reykjavik, Iceland
Coolfer posted the travel package info. I'm seriously considering it. Anyone wanna come?
11/28: The Cribs @ Mercury
Eh. Seen them 3 times already this year. I love them, but will this set really be any different than the last 3? If not, then be sure to get there early, cause they always lead off with Mirror Kissers->Hey Scenesters combo.
12/4: Iron & Wine/Calixico @ Webster
I'll go to one of these shows. Webster doesn't seem like the ideal place to see these guys, but what can you do.
12/6: She Wants Revenge @ Mercury
Actually excited to see them. Great music to dance to. Missed them at CMJ.
12/7: Voxtrot @ Mercury
One of my favorites. Will be great to see them headline Merc.
12/12: Explosions in the Sky @ Bowery
Are they two nights at Bowery big? Never seen them. Looking forward.
That's what I've got. Any suggestions are more than welcome.
K, going away for a long weekend. I'll be back Monday.
devotchka are opening for the dresden dolls at webster hall, and that should be good.
might i also suggest:
the national, clogs, bell orchestra @ maxwell's, 11/3
dios malos, swords project, say hi to your mom @ the merc, 11/4
the hold steady, blood on the wall, TaN! @ webster, 11/7
andrew bird, head of femur @ the bowery ballroom, 11/13

Northsix worked very well for the Furnaces when I saw them there a few years ago. That was the best show I've ever seen at Northsix and the best of the Furances shows I've seen.

Why wouldn't you want to go see Veruca Salt with ONE of the original members tour in support of a terrible album that was released 5 years ago?
Posted by: beth | October 21, 2005 at 03:31 PM
so... basically every trendy band ever. cool.
Posted by: roger | October 21, 2005 at 05:43 PM
Hey, Resolver was wildly underrated, and "Used to Know Her" is one helluva cum-and-acid-soaked diatribe.
You should love Veruca Salt -- and the Seether's Louise, not Nina (whose solo album was AC-lame) -- not because it's never ever been cool to (what with their opportuni$tic record deal, and the Grohl-phucking, and...), but because the songs actually do rock.
Looking forward to the Rocket from the Crypt show this week, despite its venue. And for fun, I don't see how you could beat the Peelander-Z/Phenomenauts/Portugal Japan post-Halloween show at the KF, 11/5. It's like a cure for all that Fiery Furnaces nonsense.

What about the Go! Team?
Posted by: A | October 23, 2005 at 02:08 AM
X at Roseland. Good call, forgot about that. What date?
I really know very little about Veruca...but remember a kid at summer camp was a huge fan of theirs and was always playing them. That was like 13 years ago I think?
Love the Go! Team, but hated them live. Not gonna give them another chance this time.
Furnaces, yes. Can't wait to see them again.
Kathryn, all those band's I've seen before, and while I love a few of them, don't think i'm gonna make it out for any of them this time around. Play it by ear tho.

I'm going to both Explosions nights at Bowery. I've never worked harder to get into a soldout show then the last time they played NorthSix.
