Best learn to live while you're alive

CMJ is coming, and some of the showcases are starting to take shape. on September 15th, I've already got my work cut out for me. Arcade Fire is playing Summerstage (with Wolf Parade potentially opening?) That same night, Cloud Cult is playing The 169 bar. Hopefully they'll go on late and since Summerstage shows tend to end early, I expect to make it to both.

I don't know if I've really talked about these guys enough, but their album "Advice from the Happy Hippopotamus" is certainly one of my favorites of the year. I've been listening to it now more than ever. It's quite chilling and emotional. It's not an easy album to track down, (not even at Insound) So I'm gonna put up a bunch of MP3s that show the scope this album reaches (two of them are off their website). Then go out and find yourself a copy. People making this type of music have no business playing a third rate venue like 169 at CMJ.

Cloud Cult - Light at the End of the Tunnel
My God, If this doesn't send a chill down your spine, then clearly you lack one. It's more or less a spoken word narrative of a woman dying. She speaks of a tunnel, a white light, and seeing her life and regrets flash before her eyes. Her final plea of "I wanna go back. I wanna go back. I wanna go back!" is terrifying. Please download.

This song precedes the prior one. Similar themes.

Cloud Cult - Living on the Outside of your Skin
Very Pinback-esque. Slightly more upbeat, but equally dramatic.

Cloud Cult - Training Wheels
Honestly, I could have posted any of the tracks from this album here. This was my first favorite song when I initially got the record.
