Over the last couple days, two bands in particular caught my ear while listening to KEXP in the morning. Then while scanning over OhMyRockness last night, I saw that they are playing a show together at Northsix on May 18th. How about that! Total coincidence.
The first is David Bazan's new band/sideproject, Headphones. I had read about this a while back, but up until yesterday, didn't know any more. Here's what they have to say about themselves (from their website):
Built wholly from synthesizers (that’s right, no guitars), live drums, and the familiar warmth of Bazan’s syrupy vocal delivery, Headphones boasts deft arrangements with timeless melodies and uncanny lyrical depth, finding Bazan, Walsh, and Lenz at their best. Clean, open room recording; digital subtleties with analog affectations; seamless integration of electronic and rock and elements — Headphones is a striking, sophisticated success.
It sounds really good too. If you like Pedro the Lion, it's pretty safe to say you'll enjoy this as well. You can Stream their whole album here, and download an MP3 below.
The other band is called Crystal Skulls. These guys have a jazzy, Steely Dan quality about them. I also hear hints of The Grateful Dead and Spoon. Very laid back and melodic. I don't know much more about them except that they released an album last month, and I like the MP3's below. Check em out.

Anyway, I just bought my ticket for this show. Very excited to see both bands.
