I saw these guys at CMJ completely by mistake. It had been a really long day, and we were looking to kill some time between the Thermals and The Shins at Bowery. The Album Leaf was on and, while I loved that last album, they were seriously putting me to sleep and I just couldn't handle it. So we headed over to Annex to possibly catch the then interesting seeming Horrors at the Stolen Transmission showcase. The show was running way late, and instead we ended up catching most of The Photo Atlas set. They were good. Quite good, in fact. When it was all said and done, I don't think there was another band I "discovered" at CMJ that was any better. And that's the whole point of CMJ, isn't it? I saw them again at the ST charity event a few weeks back and they were as good as I remembered. (as mentioned in my Gothamist post)
I really have a good feeling about these guys. It's frantic and yelpy and angular and EVERYTHING. There are some stellar songs on the album (like the one below), but live it all kicks through so much harder. Can't wait to see them again.

these guys are the real deal, and an amazing pick up by stolen transmission, the lead singers voice kind of reminds me of cedric's from at the drive in...these guys are huge back in their hometown of denver....

I may have to keep my eye on this blog. I was searching for album reviews for Reality vs. The Optimist when Google brought me to your page, and I'm enjoying what I see: concise and tasteful entries about some of my favourite underground bands.
Kiss Kiss and The Photo Atlas? You have good taste, sir.
