Fantastic

Not quite Leafblower quality, but I didn't know I'd be put in this situation when I left the house yesterday morning and the Sidekick has a famously poor camera. I got to watch the Knicks game from the third row courtside last night, which, as a kid who went to dozens of Knicks games growing up from mostly the 300 section, was a real treat. Realizing the gargantuan size of players like Eddy Curry and Shaq up close, seeing all the facial expressions and neck tattoos in person, stuff like that. It's a completely different experience from up there. One I do not expect to repeat anytime soon, natch, so I'm glad I got a pretty great game out of it, with the game-winning three shot from about 6 feet from my seat.

All around, yesterday was a fantastic day for entertainment. Started off with the addition of the new Nakatomi Plaza album to my iPod. I listened to that a bunch of times throughout the day. It's a really good disc. I remembered seeing them once before, but hadn't realized I mentioned them on this site previously till I was searching hypem for other mentions. I liked them then in passing then and I like the album even more now. They're playing at 8:00 at Cake Shop tonight, FYI.

I'd say this is just about the best Rainer Maria song written in the last 4 years:

And even tho that early screeching seems a bit more metal than emo or punk, the song really takes off at around the 40 second mark and totally kills:

So I listened to a lot of that, then went to the Knick game, then came home and watched two fantastic episodes of two of my favorite shows. Heroes and How I met Your Mother!

I think I was too hard on HIMYMother the last time I mentioned it. Maybe it was just a down point or maybe I was expecting too much. After all, it's a regular sitcom. With a laugh track. And the best one on TV since probably Seinfeld. It's not a show that is supposed to have a story driven plot, after all. By definition, each episode should more or less exist within itself, so I cannot blame the show for dragging with the overall plot arch. This season doesn't seem quite as magical as the first one, but there have been some genuine classic moments, and the last few weeks have been massive successes. The Barney running the marathon episode and Marshall's car episode last night were almost as good as it gets, really. It's such a great New York Story. I'm still rooting for it.

Heroes I don't feel the need to go into as much, but MAN was that something last night. Probably the biggest and best the series has had to offer yet. Had the back story explaining some of the major questions, while simultaneously showing some some real-life hardcore hero action (finally!), all leading to some serious plot shifting events. This is all clearly building towards a big finale.

So, overall, a good day for entertainment. And no, I didn't spoil it all by watching another sure-letdown episode of 24.
