So what to do with this space here. I can't use the "I'm too busy" excuse anymore. I'm not. Since a couple weeks before New Years, I haven't been doing much at all. Haven't gone out as much, work slowed down. I'm just starting to second guess myself. My writing. I've got 35 half completed, unfinished posts sitting on typepad. The proliferation of the Internet makes everything I want to write about feel like it's already been said, often better than I could. Especially about music. And it's frustrating.
Combine this with the fact that many of my favorite blogs I used to look forward to reading everyday have unfortunately dried up. I liked them because they never read like music blogs. They were blogs by people who happen to like music. Thats what I always wanted this site to feel like. To varying degrees, ToTC, One Louder, Yeti, HoaS, The Modernage, K+1, Manic Mess and Spinach Dip, among many others are all now completely gone or have majorly decreased their output. I just don't really respond to many of the sites that are still going strong. Nothing against them, I guess. But what all those sites listed above have is common is obvious. They're all New Yorkers. if I'm going to the same shows, seeing the same bands emerge from the same clubs, and seeing the people at the same parties, it makes me much more interested in what they have to say. It seems like a retarded thing to say, but the internetization of the blogesphere is what killed it for me. It was more fascinating when it was a culture more grounded in my reality. Rather than existing in Coolfer meetups at the Magician, it's here. And that fucking blows. I'm sorry. At least for me. I've simply lost a great deal of interest in the whole thing.
That really only scratches the surface, but I wanted to say something. I would like to start writing here more often again. Lets see if we can keep this going again for a couple weeks. Maybe it'll kickstart the whole operation and the feeling will return to my fingers again.

Yeah, well.
You know who does consistently good work and doesn't get enough notice? Bill over at Soundbites.

I agree. Blogging is suffering from the law of diminishing returns in both writing and reading. In fact, somebody has probably even said that before. Anyway, I am hoping this is just a winter slump and New York bloggers can get their asses back in gear.

i don't think blogs should be "work"

Oooooo, the semantic police. Okay then: He puts out good stuff, then.
Though maybe blogs shouldn't have "stuff." Or "put out."

I like a blog that gives it up on the first date.

This is a great blog. Although I read it for the music insight, I particularly like it when you talk about local things (e.g. when you asked about a decent thai restaurant in the neighborhood).
Thanks to this blog, I discovered excellent Chinese food takeout and a perfect vantage point for Webster Hall shows.
Keep it up Jeff (as long as it remains fun for you)

that wasn't so much a comment on your semantics as much as it was relating to the idea that if you blog just for fun and it didn't seem like "work" to keep up with everyone, etc... then maybe you wouldn't get tired of it.
