I had better things to listen to. Screw 2006. There is a TON of great music coming out already in 2007. I wasn't nearly as excited for nearly this much this time last year.
Ferrexample, I am LOVING the new Of Montreal more than anything. I've been listening to it for over a month straight and it still sounds as fresh as the day I first got it. I wasn't even that big a fan of theirs before, but man, this thing is good. It's the type of album where you have a favorite song or two to start, then you just listen more and more and find new favorites. First I was all about 'Helmsgate' and 'Suffer for Fashion'. Then, after a brief affair with 'Gronlandic' and 'Kongsvinger', I was obsessed with the never-ending romp that is 'The Past is a Grotesque Animal.' One of most amazing lyrical 12 minute songs ever. It just keeps building and building, never resorts to an obnoxious jam or a break. Completely unrelentless. Now I'm all about 'Rejector,' which is witty as balls and catchy as hell.
This is how I feel about many of my favorite albums of the last few years. Bloc Party's Silent Alarm and the Wolf Parade CD, to name a couple. I've had multiple favorites off those discs, and both are still extremely enjoyable today, despite me playing them to death. I think this one has lasting power, and I'm fairly excited about it. The whole thing is super smart and catchy and fun. The kind of stuff you just wanna jump up and down to. This is getting the year off to a great start.
Also...$5 to someone who can mash-up this:
Of Montreal - Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse (mp3)
with this:
Justice vs Simian - Never Be Alone (mp3)
