UPDATE: More tickets for Sunday and Monday have just been released. Hurry hurry!
The Bouncing Souls are playing a run of 6 sold out shows at the Knitting Factory this weekend, leading up to the release of their new album next Tuesday. Last night was the first night, and the kids were out in soaking droves to see the band that saved many of their lives take the stage. One kid ran away from home in Tampa to come up for this. Another hitchhiked all the way up from Florida, leaving an approving pregnant wife behind. Turns out they lived around the corner from each other and never had met before last night. The stories revolving around this band are innumerable. The backstage area at the Knit was wallpapered by fan mail, each recounting how they have been inspired by the Souls. It was pretty heavy to be in the presence of all that, both from those who put it in writing and who could make it in person.
All that said, I admittedly have no place to review this band, because it goes so much deeper than an hour spent on stage. I can say that when a band means this much to so many people, you can just feel it in the air. It's like nothing else I've ever experienced. Watching the kids on the floor get lost in it all becomes the main spectacle. The actual music almost takes a back seat.
I expect to make it back to at least one more of these shows before this run is over. It was truly unreal. Here's a couple mp3s off the new album. Lots more pics from the show after the jump...

That show was sick. I hadn't been to a punk rock show in a long time. I felt 16 all over again.
