Two new albums out today I'm really excited about. First is the new Rainer Maria
album that I'm listening to now. Too early to judge completely, as I'm
only on the third track, but I like it. So far everything is familiar
from seeing them down at Southby a couple times. I'll say it again
that, unless I'm surprised at the end, the thing I miss the most about
their newer stuff is the lack of the male vocal and harmony, which was
so jarring and earnest in their earlier stuff. It was so great. They
should bring it back.
It's not on the Bowery website yet, but they will be closing out their two month North American tour at Bowery Ballroom on May 20th. Maybe my favorite new song is on the SXSW website. Download it here while they still have it up:

Second out is the March EP from Bishop Allen. for the record, these
guys have already released a full length worth of music in 2006 so far,
and plan on getting out three more by the end of the year. I only
listened to it really quickly last night before getting in bed, but
singer Justin Rice says it's their best yet. The single, The Monitor,
is pretty great, despite what seems like a little sound mixing
inconsistencies during the chorus. Tho maybe that's intentional. What do I know. I think it's one of my top 3 BA songs already. The more I listen to it the more it grows on me. Up there with 'Bishop Allen Drive'. Have a
listen below. They're playing a few shows on the East Coast with We Are
Scientists, including one at Asbury Park, and will be back at Pianos on
April 28th. I need to see these guys soon.

Also, anybody else catch the Pitchfork blurb about Naked Babies? The Tom Vek/Former Test Icicle colab? Check em out...pretty wild. Has their ever been a better descriptor than 'Sounds Like: Tits Melting'? Doubtful. Listen to it at Myspace.
This is a good week. Aside from the star-studded Crash Test last night, tonight I'm seeing Art Brut at Bowery. The Ponys are opening for them, who I've never seen but feel like I should have. Tomorrow The Stills are at Mercury Lounge, and I'm hoping to get to go see them. They played the Vice party at SXSW and the new stuff sounded rather impressive. Thursday is the latest FRICTION party with an impressive local lineup of Other Passengers, Foreign Islands and Rahim. I swear The Diggs were on this lineup at one point or another, but it doesn't seem that way anymore. I would have loved to have seen them again. It's been a while. Rahim is always fun tho, as are the other two.
Friday is The Raconteurs. I have no shame admitting I haven't heard a second of their music, but seeing Jack White play up close should be a treat no matter what he's doing. Saturday is prolly gonna be a day off, tho I see the High Dials are playing Tiswas. Their name sounds familiar...I feel like I've heard good things (UPDATE: Here we go...). Considering last Saturday I passed out on my couch around midnight watching a 'The New Twilight Zone' marathon on the High-Def channel, almost anything will be an improvement. I don't like going to shows on Sunday, but Wolf Parade is obviously a fav of mine and Webster Hall is nearby. Holy Fuck is opening, sans Beans, which should be fun too.
While officially next week, Voxtrot is Monday night with Irving, Aloha and Magneta Lane. On Tuesday, Slowlands, who have been getting a bit of play on KEXP lately, will be playing Mercury as well.
Finally, speaking of KEXP, my buddy Greg took the time to convert
all the Voxtrot in-studio streams to MP3. Here is their cover of The
Talking Heads' Heaven. Giddy, it's a good one.

The themes have been unpublished, no release is visible in the project pages, and the tarball archives have been deleted.
The files in CVS still need to be deleted. Is there a quick way to delete all those files
