update of show:

my brother and i got a call a little after ten saying that devendra banhart was playing a secret show at trash, currated by kip from tv on the radio. we got there in time to see kip finish up his solo set. lots of guitar loops and distortion. the place was still fairly empty, but we quickly noticed devendra in the crowd with his rag tag group of band members. we enjoyed an amazing set (and what turned out to be the best performance of the evening) from the finches. only carolyn played, but mentioned aaron so much that you felt he was there. her set was intimate, full of stories from her week in new york, and had a running theme of song start and stops in cat power like vein. none the less, she was incredible and their ep is worth picking up.

the place started to get packed as (what we thought) was devendra and his band setting up. at about 12:30 the band launched into their first of three fifteen minute free-form rock jazz songs. the crowd started to realize that although devendra's guitar was on stage, he wasn't coming on stage anytime soon. devendra finally joined the band on stage to noodle some guitar for the last song, but by then most of the crowd had left, wondering if they should have spent their six bucks on a shot and pbr. in the end, it was something that turned out to be to good to be true, but what else are you going to do on a rainy sunday night?
