Little did I know, while I bumping around a lovely and sparkling new Lower-LES bar (I might have heard it called "The new Fat Baby"), Anton Newcome was sharing the stage with The High Dials and Sufjan Stevens did a song with the Castanets. I got there after all this, just in time for The Earlies, who played an inspired set of their unique brand of neo-psychedelic rock. In a special Sunday edition of General Admission, (a title I refuse to let go of, despite my wonderful publisher's insistence on the Opinionist brand) I reviewed the show. Unfortunately, I left my camera at home, so no pictures of the impressive stage presence these guys offer. Heart on a Stick was there for the whole night, and offers up an excellent recap of the whole thing, even tho he relegates the Sufjan Sighting to a virtual postscript.
Saturday I got to see The Changes once again (Pictured above), who were as good as I had remembered. Despite their goofy "And a-one, and a-two" bit before songs, they seem to have matured since CMJ, mixing around the vocals and instruments more so than I had remembered. I spent the rest of the night humming along to When I Awake and When I Sleep. Two of their best songs and some of the cleanest and catchiest shit I've heard in months.
