It's Movable Hype time again! Gothamist has put together another great party to celebrate the 1-year anniversary of the concert series. It'll be hosted by Aziz Ansari (but not Rob Huebel? I guess he got pulled out of town last minute) and DJ'd by The Husky Gentleman and Brother Lawrence. The bands are Snowden, Bravo Silva, The Cloud Room and The Capitol Years. The first three are returning Hype alums and TCY is a newbie.
I have to plead ignorance on The Capitol Years, tho the MP3 I heard off their website was pretty good. The other three bands are excellent, however. It's been a while since I last saw Snowden, but they are the consensus "If they lived in New York they'd be signed in a second" band. Cloud Room opened for Maximo Park a little while back at Bowery and played the best set I've seen them do. Extensive world touring has done wonders for them.
Bravo Silva in particular are worth taking note of. I've become a big fan since the last Movable Hype. I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more from them in the coming year. Think The Magnetic Fields meet The Police. I saw them play at Rothko a few weeks ago and it was phenomenal. The song below is my favorite off the album. Hear more on their Myspace page.
That'll be a good show tonight. I've seen Capital Years. A very good live band. Definitely worth sticking around to see them.
