If I didn't do this every once in a while, I'd never know what I'm doing.
This upcoming week should be quiet. Then...
8/8 - Kings of Leon, Secret Machines and Helio Sequence @ Roseland
Not sure what inspired me to get tickets to this show at godawful Roseland, but I'm really looking forward to going. Like all three bands, and hopefully it won't be to crowded (are KoL really a Roseland-esque draw?)
8/10 - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah @ South Street Seaport
I've done my best to back off from the CYH hype of late, but I sincerely do love their album. Never been all that impressed with them live, but I've never been too sober to see them either...
8/12 - Voxtrot, Au Revoir Simone @ Rothko
I can't give Voxtrot justice in this little blurb. If I ran a label, I would sign them and put everything I had behind getting these guys out there.
8/13 - Kano w/ Diplo and Catchdubs @ Knitting Factory
Kano's US debut. He's the most accessible Grime artist out there right now...primed for stateside success more so than his contemporaries.
8/16 - The Offspring @ CBGB's
Never a real fan growing up, but always liked them more than I thought I did. Soulseeked Smash and Americana over the weekend and have been listening to them over and over. Definitely looking forward to this.
8/17 - Smoosh @ Knitting Factory
Have heard a few songs, but am really just curious more than anything.
8/18 - Death Cab, Decemberists, Stars @ Summerstage
Lineup of the Summer. Stars and Decemberists already should be on the top 20 at the end of the year...Maybe DCFC can make it 3 for 3 with their new one?
8/20 - Sufjan @ Bowery
Was pissed about the Bunky bait and switch, but he'll surely hold his own.
8/22 - Movable Hype @ Knitting Factory
Bands still TBA...
8/26 - Les Saavy Fav, Thunderbirds are now!, etc @ Bowery
Not 100% about this one. Lots of bands I've heard a lot about without really knowing anything about them.
8/30 - Institute (feat. Gavin Rossdale) @ Bowery
Ummmmmmm...I got tickets. We'll see. Think they'll play any Bush songs?
9/7 - Idlewild @ Irving
These guys seem waay too underappreciated in America. Never seen them live.
9/13 - Sigur Ros @ Beacon
I hear they are really amazing live. Looking forward to the "more structured" new album.
9/15 - Arcade Fire @ Summerstage
Couldn't miss it.
9/19 - 13 & God @ Irving
This album keeps on creeping back into my rotation. Really good.
9/24 - White Stripes, Shins and Brendan Benson @ Keyspan
I've never seen The White Stripes Live, believe it or not. Last time I saw a show at Keyspan was for Phish and it's a pretty good spot as far as large, outdoor venues go. Hope it's not too cold.
9/25 - Maximo Park @ Bowery
Still a top 5 album of the year for me. I really want them to do something for me live. Hopefully the venue upgrade will help.
9/26 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Mark Gardener @ Irving
Honestly, I'd prolly skip this if it wasn't for Gardener, whose new stuff I'm really excited to hear. The new BRMC is so-so.
10/1-2 - Across the Pond Festival - Keyspan and Richmond County Bank Ballparks
This is a new one. Will it really happen?
10/5 - Decemberists @ Webster Hall
I've seen them more than enough this year, (will be the 6th time, counting the Colin solo shows) But I know I'd regret it if I skipped both of these Webster Shows.
10/6 - Metric @ Southpaw
Emily Haynes won me over last year with Broken Social Scene. I wanna see what her band's like live.
10/6 - Stellastarr* @ Irving
Oops. First real conflict on this list. Love Stellastarr, new album is potential top 10 of the year...will play it by ear.
10/7 - Nada Surf @ Bowery
Part of one of my favorite shows last year at Mercury Lounge. Haven't played around here since I don't think. New album coming out or something?
10/29 - The Mountain Goats and The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers @ Bowery
While it'll be great to see the MG, I've been raving about P&T recently. Dunno which I'm more looking forward to.
Did I miss anything? Besides CMJ, obviously?
I saw the Stellastarr* show posted on their MySpace page also, but nothing on Irving Plaza's website. Any idea on a ticket announcement? Thanks.
These guys rock by the way...

les savy fav will blow you away with their live performance. that show is something i can't wait for.
nada surf new album coming out soon. i downloaded it. not as great as "let go" but still pretty good. the song "do it again" is so darn good.
also, this thurs 8/4, dirty on purpose + madison strays + morning theft + a place to bury strangers + more at shanghai rock hotel, 39th street between 5th and 6th. cancer benefit. definitely a good cause.

shows-wise:
- the hold steady at the bowery ballroom
- q and not u at the knitting factory
- new pornographers/destroy at webster hall
- john vanderslice at the knitting factory and southpaw
- jens lekman is also back (with nedelle) at the mercury lounge
- the most serene republic (think death cab meets broken social scene) opening for kinski
the new nada surf, the weight is a gift, is very good but very short, clocking in at less than 40 minutes. though there's always one song committing serious lyrical crimes ("fruit fly" on let go, this time it's "blankest year").
that mountain goats show should be aces -- it's about time they graduated from the knitting factory.
also okkervil river are on tour this fall, they haven't announced a date yet, but my money says it's going to be a good show. doubly because they're on tour with charles bissell solo.

I forgot about Smoosh! Kind of interested in seeing them though, hm...
Beck is supposed to tour here in the fall. That's all I'm looking forward to right now.
Nada Surf played a free show at the Seaport a few months ago but there weren't many people there. Even though it was raining, I thought more people would show up. I hadn't listened to them before but they were fun to watch.

make sure you catch that metric show. emily is amazing on stage (and so unintentionally sexy).

Two bands that I've been going on and on (and on) about are playing together at Rothko on Thursday, August 11th: Tsar and Bona Roba. That's gonna be one kick ass rawk 'n' roll show. Not to be missed.
