I really love Maximo Park. I honestly think that A Certain Trigger is one of my top 3 (ok...top 5) albums of the year so far. I can't explain it, I just cannot stop listening to them. I saw them at Rothko a while back before I was familiar with any of their songs aside from Apply Some Pressure and thought they were completely average and forgettable. After listening to the album repeatedly for the last month or so, I couldn't wait to give them another chance. They still sound better on the record, but seeing them was fun. Tonic wasn't the best place to see a band like this, and it was really late after a long day, but given the circumstances I enjoyed myself.
I've got some more interesting pictures below after the jump...
i know what you mean about them. I heard they were pretty average live so going into the tonic shows i wasn't expecting much. They fall a wee bit flat live, maybe it's because there's absolutely no audience interaction! I couldn't imagine seeing them without knowing the words, i feel like it'd be a terrible show. I'm sure as the years go on they'll become a way better live band though.

I totally wrote this record off on first pass but after giving it a second chance I think it's a pretty strong showing. I would have to agree with Sarah about the lyrics. They really are the part of the recipe that helps the record rise above.
Hopefully I'll get to see them in Chicago.
