I have no idea where his parents were. There was a cigar box with some change and a few bills in it at his feet. The sign on the ground said he had been doing this since 5:30 and his record was something like an hour and a half. It was about six when I walked by.
While amusing, there was something eerily depressing about the whole scene. Too many questions...

Hi Jeff and all,
While I appreciate the people looking out for homeless youngsters on the streets, and I was amused by the first pictures of Pogo Boy on Gawkers....this story happens to be a happy one.
You would only have to talk to Pogo Boy himself for a few minutes to learn that it was his idea, he loves it, and begs Mom and siblings to take him to be "Pogo Boy".
Background: He's 8yrs old. He is an established working actor with commercial and film credits. (Yes, he has an agent.) He has admired street performers for many years and wanted to be one himself. He found out that he was good at pogosticking..... and then the legend was born. He performs at Union Square, Time Square and Columbus Circle.
Maybe you would have posted a different blog if you had been there a few nights before? Siblings and friends were leading cheers, the crowd was responding with smiles, laughter and a little bit of money. Tour buses stopped.
Then...one of the cheerleaders told the crowd that Pogo Boy had to stop because his mom said it was bedtime. It was 10:30pm. Yes, it is Summer, but even the best hoppers need their sleep. The crowd boo-ed the mother and Pogo Boy took a bow.
Hope that helps and that I cleared my name as the "no-where-to-be-seen-mother". (He doesn't want me to cramp his style.)
Another thought: Maybe Jeff and other guys just have some sour grapes? I noticed that the guys always watch a bit before giving up a dollar. I don't know if they are thinking that they could do it, or that they think he will fall off...but they hesitate a few minutes before giving up some money. The women, on the other hand, just smile, laugh and run to put money in.
Well, I'm done. For WIW, I think he puts just as many smiles on the people's face's as the Naked Cowboy. He's like a more "G-rated", wholesome version of the cowboy. Pogo-stick instead of guitar, fully clothed instead of underwear. And parents don't feel afraid to let their little ones go close-up.

I saw Pogo Boy on Channel 5 news last night. Very interesting... what a great way to make some money and get practice performing in public! The best of luck to you and congratulations on your stardom!!!

Hi,
I didn't catch Pogo-Boy on Fox News when it aired, but someone taped it for me!
It was a very cool editorial. Thank-you Steffan Tubbs! You did a great job and we will never forget your "down to earth" manner and your kindness.
FWI, this was not a publicity stunt or anything of the sort. Steffan saw Pogo-Boy performing and thought it would make a good story.
...and it did!
Thanks again!
