I got home yesterday from Florida and heard really great things about Saturday's British Sea Power show. Really wanted to see them while they were in town. I wasn't feeling great after traveling all day, but I found myself sitting at home and bored, so I went down to Bowery to check it out. Fantastic night.
Feist put on the best show I've seen her do yet (of three). I just like her much better without a band. She seems more comfortable with her songs when she's on her own. It's almost like having a the band takes away her motivation to get creative, which is when she's at her strongest. She was also able to personally connect with the audience in a way I hadn't seen her able to do in the past, which was surprising given the size of the venue in comparison to Joe's Pub and the 100 club (in London). I was very happy to still be so impressed by her.
British Sea Power was very good as well. They weren't quite as exciting and rambunctious as I was lead to believe, but they have some solid songs that came across great live. The lead singer (I'm afraid I don't know his name, and I'm a bit too tired to go look it up) may have one of the best rock voices I've ever heard. Quite haunting. Been meaning to check out the new album for a while now, but haven't gotten around to it yet. "Decline of..." is still getting plenty of plays.
I posted a few more, um, 'artistic' (read: blurry) pics here, here and here.
Have you had any problems with Bowery guards about taking pictures? What camera do you have?
