I have been listening to The National's new album Alligator almost non stop for the last week. It is remarkably addictive. I think there's something about the combination of a dinkley guitar and baritone voice that has a hypnotizing effect. Reminds me a lot of Chin Up Chin Up's album, which I also still listen to constantly.
I woke up this morning at 5:30 AM with the refrain to Mr. November painfully running through my head. I could not fall back asleep. I love the song, but cannot stand that part! I don't get it. It just flows so poorly. 'Over' and 'November' don't even rhyme! Yet I still can't stop listening to that track. Is the desperation in his voice during the chorus subliminally appealing? Like he's blurting out the most primal thing to come to his mind? If that's the point then i guess it's brilliant, since I'm constantly singing it to myself.
But either way, I've listened to it all the way through no less than three times a day since last Monday. It's out of control. My officemate hasn't said anything yet today, but I can tell what he's thinking. When I get home, I'll update this post with a couple MP3s from the album. For now you can stream the entire album here. Enjoy.
UPDATE: As promised...
i am completely obsessed with alligator also!
