I had typed up a long post about the Bachata-boy band Aventura, but I had some dismantling computer problems and it was all lost. By the time everything was back up and running, I lost the motivation to re-write the whole thing. So, moving on...
Back when MTV 2 first launched, they used to premiere a video one day a week and show it every hour on the hour. I remember specifically seeing the video for Spoon's 'Everything Hits at Once' and being absolutely blown away. I set the VCR up to tape it so I could watch it over and over again. I even sat my parents down and showed it to them. They were impressed. Anyway, it's a great song and an even better video.
I was just watching last week's New York Noise on DVR, and sure enough, they played the video. Quite a blast from the past. It still held up, and I was very excited to watch it again. If you've never seen it, or it's been a while, check it out:

The only video in recent years that I thought was any better than the one mentioned above also happened to premiere during that same summer on M2. It was Kenna's emotionally arresting video for the song 'Hell Bent'. Despite the killer track and a stunning video, nothing ever came of this guy, due to some well documented label mismanagement. Nevertheless, it is a brilliant short. Watch it below:

So what happened to music videos? You'd think that with all these art-school bands nowadays, there'd be legions of their visually creative friends fighting to make the next five-minute masterpiece. Am I just not doing a good job seeking these out, or does nobody really put the effort into what has basically become an outdated form of band promotion?
ahhh i so remember that! That was the video that started my obsession with spoon! I also remember that kenna video and it was so intense. That show on sundance with Thurston Moore, Sonic Cinema, once went into full detail about "everything hits at once" and how it was made, it was awesome..
